BURLESQUE

MOVIE
Directed by Steve Antin. Starring Cher, Christina Aguilera and Alan Cumming.

Written and directed by Steven Antin, Burlesque is a steamy musical that follows a small-town singer's quest to make it in Los Angeles. Upon her arrival in the big city, Ali (Christina Aguilera) discovers a Burlesque club owned by Tess (Cher) and is quickly thrust into a world of provocative dancing, sassy songs and outrageous costumes. Unconvinced of Ali's talent, Tess hires her as a waitress until the young singer can prove that she is a true performer. One night, when the club's main act is too ill to perform, Ali takes her place, wowing the crowd with her big voice and sultry dance moves and affirming her place as the show's star. Although riddled with mediocre dialogue, Burlesque is a visual and musical feast thanks to big dance numbers and toe-tapping tracks. Considering that acting isn't her day job, Aguilera delivers a convincing performance as lead character Ali, keeping viewers hooked thanks to her incredible vocals, surprisingly good acting abilities and daring choreography.
